Sam Kenworthy
Occupational Therapist and Sensory Integration Practitoner/RFI Sensory Service Team Lead
Having joined Rehabilitation For Independence in January 2020, my role with the company is an Occupational Therapist specialising in Sensory Processing and Integration. I am a qualified Practitioner in Sensory Integration, using these skills and experience to carryout sensory assessments, generate reports and make recommendations, supporting families and children presenting with sensory challenges and other complex needs.
Using my experience gathered working with individuals with various complex needs including Autism, ADHD, Learning Difficulties, Schizophrenia, Personality Disorder and challenging behaviour, I have been able to develop my role further whilst at RFI, having worked collaboratively with parents, schools and other key stakeholders in helping to ensure a wider understanding of sensory needs and their impact upon function is established and recognised across numerous settings.
As part of my role, he have complete both face to-face and virtual assessments with clients and their families. As a result, I am responsible for generating detailed diagnostic reports and where required, oversee and deliver further therapeutic intervention that supports children, their families and schools. Support is also provided through the EHC Process to help ensure all sensory needs are met.
As part of the sensory pathway delivered by Rehabilitation For Independence, I am is also responsible for the delivery of both parent and workforce training workshops concerning sensory processing needs. I oversee the sensory service at Rehab For Independence, supporting all staff working with children with sensory needs and their families, by providing clinical guidance and supervision.
During previous work placements, I have delivered Occupational Therapy assessment and Intervention for those who present with behaviour that challenges, or where there has been risk of offending. I have been able to develop a wealth of experience through thorough Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention utilising a range of assessment tools, models and frameworks. Such experiences have included the completion of initial assessments, clinical observation and collaborative goalsetting, intervention delivery (in both group and 1:1 settings), intervention evaluation and the writing of reports to support future occupational therapy intervention and recommendations. Sam has also gathered a wealth of experience contributing to various multi-disciplinary discussions, which have included CPA meetings, risk assessment reviews, Care and Treatment Reviews, professionals meetings and second opinion to the SOAD process. Alongside my role, I have also completed training in both the ADOS-2 and ADI-R diagnostic assessments for autism.
I am very passionate about the areas of practice I currently work in, and feel RFI is the perfect setting for me to help develop and enhance my expertise further.
