Rehabilitation for Independence (RFI) was proud to attend the recent Speed Quiz and Dinner in support of the Spinal Injuries Association – a fantastic evening filled with laughter, generosity, and heartfelt stories, all in aid of a vital cause.
Our quiz team – Rehab-A-Daba-Do– may have started off at the bottom of the scoreboard, but we were not therefor long. Fuelled by determination (and a few glasses of fizz), we climbed the rankings to finish strong in 9th place! It was a brilliant night of light-hearted competition and camaraderie, and we were thrilled to be part of it.
Midway through the evening, teams were given an unexpected – and slightly chaotic – challenge: to build the tallest freestanding structure out of marshmallows and spaghetti. Let’s just say the results were... interesting. Some teams’ towers collapsed in spectacular fashion, while others stood (barely!) with pride. It was a hilariously tricky task that had everyone laughing and brought a real sense of fun and togetherness to the night.
Guests enjoyed classic comfort food – delicious bangers and mash – while sipping on bubbly, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. A raffle added to the excitement, with prizes including gift vouchers, luxurious afternoon teas, and even a hamper from Harvey Nichols.
Throughout the evening, we heard moving and inspiring stories from some of the incredible individuals taking part in an upcoming charity bike ride from Venice to Bologna. One rider, using a hand bike, shared memories of their past journeys –an astonishing 11 across Europe so far. A standout moment was their battle up a steep hill, where sheer determination and the cheers of a supportive crowd helped push them to the summit and across the finish line. It was a powerful reminder of the resilience and spirit this cause supports every day.
The event was a wonderful success and a touching celebration of community, courage, and commitment. Huge thanks to the Spinal Injuries Association and all the organisers, volunteers, and supporters who made the night possible. RFI was honoured to be a part of it – a great night had by all, and all for an incredibly worthy cause.
Here’s to more events like this, and to everyone riding, donating, and cheering in support of spinal injury recovery and independence.
